Effective Weight Loss tips – Weight Loss for Children

August 8th, 2010

A major issue which parents nowadays must be aware of are the risks of obesity, especially where children are concerned. It is very difficult for a child to lead a healthy life nowadays, what with TV and video games being so popular. Where children used to go out and play in the streets, running around, playing football or cricket, now they stay at home playing those same things on a screen.

Why? You may ask yourself. Well, it’s probably because of how advanced technology is nowadays. You make friends online and play games with them online. It is completely different to the ways things used to be done.

So, what can you do to avoid your child becoming one of these children? Well, there are many things you can do, not all the right thing for your child, but some may just work.

Take them out to the park every now-and-again. If they like playing football, play football with them! Go for walks and (if they’re still not too old for it) make it into a little adventure. Go to the beach and swim in the sea or go canoeing! All of these are ways of making your child do exercise and bond with you at the same time. Another way of making them do exercise is to take them to lessons in the local sports centre. Maybe they like dancing or combat sports. These all work!

As I always say, you can’t lose weight doing exercise if you’re not willing to change what you eat as well. Give them healthier choices when it comes to meal times. Don’t cut out the ‘nice’ stuff completely, but have them less often and make it into a special occasion as opposed to a normal occurrence. They’ll appreciate those foods a lot more if it’s every now-and-again, and won’t take them for granted.

Get rid of temptation! Is your house full of biscuits, cakes, crisps, chocolate…? If so, get rid of them. Have a few small packets to give when they’ve been exceptionally good or have a day of the week where you can have that sort of rubbish. Make Fridays ‘pig-out’ day! This will set a routine which they will eventually get used to.

I hope this has helped and good luck helping your child lead a healthy, full life feeling good about themselves and their body. No one likes having low self-esteem and you wouldn’t want to wish that on your child.

Effective Weight Loss – The Secret to Simple Weight Loss

August 5th, 2010

Weight loss is simple! There is no need to go on crazy diets or do too much exercise! It’s not that difficult.

So what is the ‘secret’ when it comes to losing weight? Well, you need to be able to look at  yourself and see a possibility of change. If you think it’s a lost cause, it will be! You are your enemies biggest weapon (your enemy being your weight)!

Weight Loss is all about eating sensibly and exercising regularly, be it high intensity runs or low intensity walking. Think of things you can do to exercise. A highly recommendable way of exercising is to by a step (or something you can use as a step) and whilst you’re watching TV, just step on it constantly. That could well be half an hour exercise just there and you will barely notice it.

Another option is to walk to places instead of driving. Think of somewhere relatively close which you usually drive to and walk instead. It may well be the shops, it could be work, it could be your kids school, it could be your school. It doesn’t matter! Just do it!

A close family friend used to go to work a 20 minute drive away from her house. One day she decided that to be able to do exercise she would cycle to the train station, get a train from there to one a few stops away from where she worked, and then cycle from their to work. She did this twice a day, once to get to work, and once to get back. She got really fit from doing this and nothing else!
As I said before, food is another major reason for putting on or losing weight. Think about what you eat in a day. Do you eat when you’re board? I know I do. I used to go and look in the fridge to see what there was about 10 times in 5 minutes (maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but you know what I mean). Instead of doing that. When you have nothing else to do and all you want to do is eat, get some fruit! Drink some water! Get in the habit!

I’ve seen in lots of shops little ‘alarms’. What they do is every time you open the fridge it makes a noise. One of the most popular ones are ones that make a piggy noise. As I said, these are really popular, they keep you motivated and it also helps you see whether you give a damn about losing weight or not, because if you hear that noise and still get something out of the fridge to eat, you should know that something is going wrong with your weight loss.

This may seem like a crazy diet, but believe me, it’s not! It is just making the right choices when it comes to your life. Know one wants to be seen as chubby. It’s just not right! Make the right choices and soon, you will see that you will start to achieve effective weight loss.

The 5 Golden Rules of Effective Weight Loss

July 19th, 2010

The guidelines you remember all the time, never forget, will be the Golden rules that always apply. Like stars to guide us, they shine brilliantly, keeping us on course and always going in a positive direction.

Whatever task you undertake, whatever goal you aspire to, there will be Golden Rules to guide you, you just need to find them.

Golden Rules, the 5 BEST ONES for Effective Weight Loss.

Golden Rule # 1, Set an achievable goal.

Don’t say you want to lose 10kg in one week, it is just NOT possible to do this in a healthy way!. The reason behind this is first, if you don’t achieve the goal, you’ll be completely demotivated and think that you can’t lose the weight you want to. You can! But you have to be realistic.. Remember, the average amount of weight that can be lost healthily per week is about 1 kg. I know it doesn’t sound like much, but believe me, it is! These soon add up.

Golden Rule # 2, Make sure you set a long term goal!

Too many people don’t and they then don’t know when to stop or they might just think enough is enough when they are still overweight.. You will want to watch out using this because if you set the goal too far away you may just forget about it or postpone any action because you’ll think that you have ages to achieve it. Soon enough you’ll realise you have run out of time. And you need to keep in mind that it is all very well to have short term weekly goals, but if you do not know where you want to end up you might get lost.

Golden Rule # 3, Don’t overdo it!

This really is advisable because you could seriously injure yourself or harm your body. You DON’T want to starve yourself and you don’t want to wear yourself out. Again, this is a HUGE demotivator and the main reason why a lot of people stop trying

Golden Rule # 4, Choose the right exercise for YOU!

If you need to you could get this done by visiting a personal trainer, but it isn’t necessary. Choose to do something you enjoy doing. You may like quiet walks or runs in the country, you may enjoy following exercise videos, you may even like joining a group exercise session. It’s up to YOU!

Golden Rule # 5, Eat the correct food (and the correct amount)!

Ways to accomplish this step include avoiding fattening foods. Also, if you’re full, STOP! You aren’t obliged to finish everything on your plate. If you’re full, leave it! Seriously, you can do as much exercise as you want, but if you carry on eating a load of rubbish nothing is going to change. . You will want to accomplish this carefully. It can be very dangerous if you take it too far. Anorexia and Bulimia are not things to be taken lightly. They are very serious mental conditions.

If you follow these golden rules to effective weight loss, you will find life easier, your progress more rapid and your successes more pronounced and frequent. Yu’ll achieve higher self esteem and self view. These are very important in life.

Effective Weight Loss – 3 Things You’ll Want to Avoid

July 15th, 2010

Some people use the internet and search for effective weight loss. Why is that?

One can find various explanations why people do a search for things on internet. Usually there will be something they need, a problem or need to be solved and satisfied. Most are motivated by one of two different goals: Pleasure Seeking (trying to find gain, profit, pleasure, enlightenment, etc.) or Pain Avoidance (hoping to avoid loss, illness, pain, liabilities, problems, etc.)

There are, needless to say, both negative and positive aspects both likely and implied when someone searches on effective weight loss. This informative article will focus on the “Pain Avoidance side, addressing the three things, points, mistakes or actions that one would most wish to avoid…

What is it you want to achieve? In this case, obviously you want to lose weight.

You should also know some of the specifics of the problem or need. Things such as understanding what causes you to lose weight or why you may gain weight.

Fine. Now what will we be avoiding? And why do we want to avoid that?

When you know what weight gain will lead to and you know the reasons you want to avoid wieght gain and achieve effective weight loss, then clearly you will want to know how to do this.

And so, here then are the 3 things you should avoid:

First off, never be lazy! Laziness is the number one reason for weight gain. How can you lose weight if all you do all day is sit around doing nothing!?

How do I avoid this? Well, first off, get up! Take a walk, go for a run, take the dog out, play football with your kids, do WHATEVER you want, but move! It’s really not that difficult!

Second, stop the emotional eating! Why you may ask? Well, emotional eating is a major weight gaining factor. You should only eat enough food. Don’t eat too much. Don’t eat because you’re bored! Stop it! It’s NOT difficult!!

And how do we know what is enough? Well, you know when you’re full. You know that you’re eating out of bordom when you go to the fridge ten times in one minute and just open it and look in blankly for no apparent reason..

Third and lastly, Make the effort, avoid stalling and thinking: “well, I’ll do it tomorrow, I’m too tired today…” Start NOW!. The reason for this is that if you want to lose weight, you’re going to have to try. You need to want to. It’s not going to happen by itself!

And exactly how will we know when these are being avoided adequately?

Eliminate the negatives by avoiding these 3 potential problems. That gives you a far greater chance to win at and gain by the remaining potential positive aspects of the effective weight loss.

What Sort of Food Should You Be Eating For Effective Weight Loss?

June 30th, 2010

In yesterday’s post I mentioned that there are certain foods you should be eating more of and certain foods you should be eating less of or not at all. You may wonder what these are. You may think you already know. You may think you don’t need to change what you already eat to lose weight.

There are 5 major food groups which are essential that you eat:

1. Carbohydrates

2. Proteins

3. Fats

4. Fibre

5. Vitamins & Minerals

Each one of these has different functions and works in different ways. I’ll give a brief explanation of each.

1. Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates give you energy. They are generally found in sugary or starchy food (pasta, bread, potatoes, fruit, vegetables…). These you need, but you shouldn’t eat too much of them.

2. Proteins

Proteins are to help repair and maintain itself. Found in dairy products, fish, meat, poultry…

3. Fats

They provide energy. Contrary to popular belief, it is good to eat fats, just not saturated fats, transfatty acids, hydrogenated fats…

4. Fibre

Helps with digesting food. This aids the passing of the food through the digestive system.

5. Vitamins and Minerals

These are generally for keeping your body healthy. There are lots of different types and they’re all for different things.

It is essential that you eat all of these types of food!

Consult a dietician for a healthy, safe diet plan.

Good luck

Maria

PS. Next up, how to record your progress!

The Key to Effective Weight Loss

June 29th, 2010

You may ask yourself, what is the key to effective weight loss? You may also think it is impossible. Well, it’s not. Losing weight is easy as long as you stick to it. As long as you don’t put it off. You can always make excuses, but if you want to lose weight, DON’T!

1. Do exercise!

What better way to lose weight than by enjoying yourself whilst doing it? Go for a bike ride, a walk, a run, take your dog out, walk up and down the steps to your house instead of using the lift (if you live in a flat). These are a few of the things you can do without having to use an eliptical runner or treadmill for example. As you can see, there is no excuse not to do exercise!

If you don’t want to leave your house to do exercise, you don’t have to. Buy a step and do steps on the spot whilst watching TV. Get wii fit or wii active (I personally recommend wii active as it’s more about exercise and less about fun ie, you lose more weight). Buy an eliptical runner or a treadmill.

2. Eat healthily!

You’re not going to lose weight if you don’t eat the right food! It doesn’t matter how much exercise you do if you still eat rubbish! You have to eat correctly.

You may ask yourself what eating the correct food is. Well, you will find out in future posts, but I’m sure you can decide which one of these two photos is the one you should be inclined to eat:

3. Stay focused!

One slip up may happen, but if it does, make sure it doesn’t happen again! Yes, you can make mistakes, but you don’t want to make loads of mistakes which will jeopardise your weight loss!

If you want to look like the people in one of these pictures, follow my blog!

Good luck with your weight loss!

Maria
